STUDENT CARE AND WELL-BEING

Student Care and Well-Being (SCWB) provides assistance and case management for students in crisis and outreach to parents and families. The staff in this area coordinates a range of services to assist students with issues and concerns that may interfere with their academic success. Contact SCWB at 205-348-2461 or bamacares@ua.edu.

HEALTH

Health Promotion and Wellness (HPW) offers individual and group education on a variety of health topics as well as presentations for student organizations and classes, special health awareness events and resources for students working on health-related academic projects. MENTAL HEALTH

The Counseling Center helps University of Alabama students achieve academic success and personal growth through a comprehensive counseling center model focused on providing quality counseling and psychological services, outreach, consultative services, and the training of mental health professionals. UA students have free access to a peer support platform for mental health. Togetherall is a safe, online, chat-based community where students can share experiences and process feelings confidentially while receiving peer support to improve their mental health and well-being. Students can register for a free Togetherall account by using their myBama credentials.

Students can also anonymously receive support from a volunteer by texting the Crisis Text Line. Just text “BAMA” to 741-741.

WOMEN AND GENDER RESOURCE CENTER

The Women and Gender Resource Center (WGRC) provides free, confidential and voluntary counseling and advocacy services to members of The University of Alabama community who are victims/survivors of interpersonal violence. Services are also provided to family and friends who have been impacted by the abuse, to students at Shelton State Community College, and to anyone who is victimized on the campus of The University of Alabama. SUBSTANCE USE

Individuals under 21 years of age are not permitted to consume alcohol or be in possession of alcohol. Do not consume drugs or alcohol illegally. If you do choose to consume alcohol, drink responsibly; overindulging can have many negative effects for you and those around you. Collegiate Recovery and Intervention Services (CRIS) provides a comprehensive continuum of care for students with substance use concerns. Services range from prevention, awareness, and exploration of consequences for high risk behaviors to a supportive, safe, and engaging environment that supports students seeking or contemplating recovery from addiction. SUICIDE PREVENTION

If you or a member of the University community is struggling with suicidal thoughts, feelings or concerns, the following resources are available for you:

  • Crisis Text Line – text BAMA to 741-741 (available 24/7).
  • 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline – call or text 988 or call 1-800-273-8255 (available 24/7).
  • If it is an emergency situation, immediately contact UAPD at 911 or 205-348-5454.

The University also offers a suicide prevention training program that is designed to help students and employees prevent suicide by, among other things, providing tools to recognize and assist people at risk.
