Emergency Preparedness and Response

The University of Alabama has a comprehensive emergency plan in place to deal with any crisis that may occur on campus.

The University of Alabama Police Department (UAPD) is a fully accredited law enforcement agency with highly trained professional officers who are prepared to respond to emergencies of all types, including active shooter incidents. All UAPD officers have gone through specific training regarding emergency situations and regularly participate in training exercises.

In addition, UAPD works closely with the Tuscaloosa Police Department, Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue, and the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office and can draw upon their resources if needed. In a crisis or emergency, the primary focus of UAPD will be to locate and confront the threat immediately.

EMERGENCY NOTIFICATIONS

In the event of an emergency, the University is prepared to notify the University community through a variety of methods.

One of the methods the University uses for emergency notifications is UA Alerts. This system enhances the University’s ability to reach students, faculty and staff by simultaneously triggering multiple contact points. In an emergency, students, faculty and staff may receive emails to their official UA.edu or crimson.ua.edu accounts, telephone calls to their mobile and/or home telephones, or SMS text messages. To receive phone calls and text messages, all faculty, staff and students should update their personal information through the myBama portal.

UA Alerts may also be received by using the UA Safety mobile app and by folllowing @UA_Safety on Twitter.
