If you live off campus or are planning to live off campus in the future, you need to be extra aware of your surroundings in order to stay safe and within the law. Some activities, such as how loud you play your music and how long you leave your garbage cart by the curb, are matters about which there are laws that you must obey or risk paying a fine.

Living Off Campus

Off-Campus Resources (OCR), a functional area within the Office of Dean of Students, oversees the off-campus housing search website, housing fairs and programming for UA students about leases, landlords, and successful community living.

Visit OCR’s website to learn about your rights as a tenant, your obligations to your landlord, and tips for personal and home safety.

UAPD FRINGE PATROL

UAPD works closely with members of the Tuscaloosa Police Department to provide additional law enforcement presence in the business and residential areas surrounding the University. UAPD assigns police officers to work in the area commonly known as the Strip and also in the surrounding neighborhoods of the UA campus. The geographical boundaries are: Jack Warner Parkway to the north, Queen City Avenue to the west, 15th Street to the south, and Hackberry Lane to the east.

UAPD officers may perform their law enforcement tasks in marked patrol units, unmarked vehicles, police bicycles, foot patrol or a combination of all of these methods. The officers may be in police patrol uniform or in plain clothes depending on the mission of the assignment and the needs of the community.
